Large Giriami Bowl from Kenya
This is a wonderful burnished and blacked bowl from the Giriama which is one of the largest groups of the Mijikenda people in the the Northeast coast of Kenya. They consider their forest trees to be sacred. This beautiful bowl is carved by the women using their traditional tools and practices. These bowls are one of a kind and used for carrying food, milk or storage. Scrap metal was often used by the natives to repair these bowls so that it would extend its use by the tribe. This bowl would be a lovely addition to your shelf or favorite table. Place a plant inside for a decorative twist!
