Lega Mask from Congo
Original wood carved Lega mask from Democratic Republic of Congo in Central Africa. Masks like these were a symbol of the owner's rank within the society and represent moral or social values. It is traditionally used during initiation rites and in conjunction with dance, poetry, and song, and giving wisdom to members of the society. Some cracking consistent with age but nothing that detracts from its beauty. It has metal hook wiring on back for hanging.
